Today is the 24th attempt to constitute the Assembly in Kosovo

This morning, Kosovo will make its 24th attempt to constitute the ninth legislature to emerge from the February 9 elections. As in previous sessions, in the last session held on Thursday, MPs refused to form a commission to oversee a secret ballot for the speaker.

This form of voting was sent to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo by parties that were in opposition in the previous legislature. The deputies have only passed two items on the agenda of the constitutive session: the report of the Temporary Committee for the Verification of Mandates and the oath of deputies.

But the process has stalled at the third point, the election of the speaker of parliament. There are reactions and calls to break the deadlock at home and abroad regarding the failure to establish institutions. Civil society organizations have warned of the consequences that Kosovo will face due to the lack of institutions. One of the most significant consequences that these organizations listed was the inability to ratify the agreement with the European Union for funds.

The European Union has also called on Kosovo to establish institutions and start working to benefit from the Growth Plan that the bloc has drafted for countries in the region - some of which have already started receiving the money.
