The hot days of June significantly increase visits to the Vlora psychiatric

At the Vlora Psychiatric Hospital, during these hot days of June, there has been a significant increase in the number of visits from people presenting mental health concerns, reaching up to 30 visits per day. From these visits, there are also cases where patients receive hospital services at the Psychiatric Hospital.

"Cases requiring medical assistance have increased, both at the community center and in the hospital itself, which covers the entire south of the country," said Stiliano Lepuri, a psychiatrist.

According to him, high temperatures significantly affect the condition of patients, especially those who suffer from anxiety, chronic mental illness or users of narcotic substances and alcohol.

"There is also no shortage of young people, who often come for visits or end up hospitalized for longer-term treatment ," he said.

Currently, the community mental health center handles over 35 visits per day. Not all cases require hospitalization, but a good portion receive treatment and leave.

There have also been recorded cases of foreign tourists seeking help, mainly due to substance use during their stay in Vlora, and two of them have even received hospital treatment for several months.

The psychiatrist appeals for increased caution during this hot period, recommending that patients avoid sun exposure, take their medications regularly, and not consume alcohol./TCH
