Rallies against Vučić continue, Belgrade prepares for major student protest

Belgrade is preparing for a major student protest, after eight months of rallies against the government of President Aleksandar Vučić. The students are demanding the announcement of early parliamentary elections and a ban on counter-protesters' demonstrations in the center of the capital.

The protests began after the November 1 tragedy in Novi Sad, where a roof collapse at the railway station killed 16 people, sparking anger over corruption and mismanagement by the government.

President Vučić and the Serbian Progressive Party have rejected calls for early elections, accusing protest organizers of planning violence with external influence. He warned of unrest during the evening of the protest, guaranteeing that the state will protect order and punish those who cause violence.

The students have issued an ultimatum that if their demands are not met by June 28 at 9:00 PM, they will begin various forms of civil disobedience. The counter-protesters, who call themselves “students who want to learn,” oppose the blockades at universities.
