Ermal Meta narrates Albania through his new novel: Kanuni, Fate and the Roots I

The singer of Albanian origin, Ermal Meta, has published his second novel entitled “Le camelie invernali”, a profound account of cultural heritage, the weight of the Kanun and the clash between the past and modernity. The book was published by “La Nave di Teseo” and has been received with interest by readers and critics.

In a recent interview, Meta reveals that the story revolves around two young Albanians, Uksani and Kamir, who face inevitable revenge because of the Kanun – the Albanian customary code that, according to him, “unfortunately still exists in the depths of Albanian society.”

"Even though I fled Albania at the age of 13, I do not deny my origins. The Kanun is something we all know. It is part of our history, whether we accept it or not," says Meta.

The new novel represents an important step in his career as a writer, following the success of his first novel "Domani e per sempre", translated into 10 languages and nominated for the prestigious "Strega" award.

In addition to music and literature, Ermal Meta is living a new personal phase. He and his partner Chiara have completed the process of adopting two Albanian girls, who now live with them in Italy along with the couple's biological daughter, Fortuna Marie, who will soon be one year old.

"We are very happy. This is a choice that comes from the heart. I hope the girls will immediately feel part of the family – because real things never expire," he says.

In June, Meta begins his summer tour in Italy, but emphasizes that he will make sure to be as close as possible to the new family he has built. "I hope that the fire of passion for art burns long, but more than anything, I want to be there for those I love."
