The Economist Intelligence Unit ( EIU ) has published its new list of the 10 cities with the highest standard of living for 2025.

From the new ranking, it seems that Vienna has lost its first place in the ranking of the most livable cities in the world after three consecutive years.

This year Vienna ranks second, based on a number of factors, including healthcare, education, stability, infrastructure and environment.

Copenhagen, which scored "excellent" in stability, education and infrastructure, now takes first place out of 173 cities, while Vienna shares second place with Zurich, Switzerland. Melbourne, Australia, has retained fourth place, while Geneva, Switzerland, has climbed to fifth place on the list.

Sydney, Australia, climbed the rankings, moving from seventh to sixth place, while the Japanese city of Osaka and Auckland, New Zealand, share seventh place.

In ninth place, Adelaide was the third Australian city to enter the top ten, while Vancouver, Canada, completed the top ten.

The list of the 10 best cities to live in 2025 is:

The worst cities to live in

As expected, Damascus, Syria, remained the worst city to live in six months after the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad. Tripoli, Libya, is the second-to-last city on the list.

Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, ranked third from bottom, while Pakistan's Karachi and Algeria ranked fourth and fifth among the cities with the lowest standard of living.
